PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports ended a busy weekend with a Top-10 finish on Sunday night in Haubstadt, IN.
“We actually were a little off in the feature event, but if a bad night is still a Top-10 that’s where we would like to be regularly,” Paul McMahan said. “My guys bust have been busting their butts all year long and I really feel like we are close to being rewarded for our efforts.”
Following a couple of trying nights at the Eldora Speedway that saw McMahan finish 17th and 13th, the Destiny Motorsports team came out with some pep in their step on Sunday night as the Nashville, TN driver timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining the MonDak Portables/Ft Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 entry up on the pole of his heat race, McMahan would finish in the second position and move on to the all-important Craftsman Club Dash.
Gridding the field from the fourth row in the Dash, McMahan would improve his feature event starting spot by a row as a sixth place finish would place him in the third row for the 40-lap feature event.
Looking to keep his car up front on this night, McMahan would stay put in the Top-10 for the duration of the race but would struggle to gain ground as he moved around the Tri-State Speedway.
Battling with Brad Sweet and Hunter Schurenberg during the action packed feature, McMahan would struggle a little in the closing laps but would still capture a Top-10 as he finished in the ninth position.
“We missed our set up a little bit in the feature and it showed,” McMahan said. “Again, if we can still get a Top-10 during a bad race we will be heading in the right direction. We have a tough week in front of us heading to Pennsylvania, but we will keep working hard and see what we can do.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Champion Brand Lubricants, All Star Performance, KSE Racing Products, FK Indy, HRP, KPC, PPM Titanium, Chalk Stix, Wilwood, Kieizer Wheels, Simpson, Petersen Media, My Race Pass, Speedway Engines, FK Rod Ends, Boss Signs and Graphics, Classic Ink, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Hoosier Tires North, and BulterBuilt for their continued support.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-31, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-12.
