McMahan Puts Destiny Motorsports on World of Outlaws Podium in Texas

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he was extremely pleased to finish second on Thursday night in Willis, TX, Paul McMahan still doesn’t like how second place feels. Battling up front all night long, McMahan earned a hard fought second place finish at Gator Motorplex after leading laps late in the race.

“As much as second feels good for this team, it still is a bittersweet finish because nobody likes to finish second,” Paul McMahan said with a smile. “It was a good night for our team, and as I have been saying, things are coming together.”

Taking to the Gator Motorplex on Thursday night as a make up date from earlier this year, McMahan would get the night started off well as he timed the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 entry in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Battling with Donny Schatz in heat race action, McMahan would finish in the second spot and punch his ticket into the nightly Dash where a third place finish would put him in the second row for the feature event.

When the race came to life, McMahan would find himself running up front as he would battle with Brad Sweet, and Schatz in the early goings of the ‘A’.

As the leaders came into traffic, McMahan looked to get even stronger and was able to use the low line of the speedway to get under both Schatz and Jason Sides and take over the race lead.

Out front, McMahan would look strong though would soon feel pressure from David Gravel. Able to keep Gravel at bay, a late restart would see Gravel get the best of him with 10-laps to go, though McMahan would hang on and record his best finish with Destiny Motorsports, second.

Heading to Mesquite, TX on Friday night to take to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, McMahan would get off to a slow start as he timed in 21st fastest in qualifying time trials.

Running fifth in the third heat race, McMahan would advance to the feature event where he would line up in the eighth row for the 25-lap affair. With the track struggling to widen out in the feature event, passing would be tough at times from the back of the pack.

Again battling with David Gravel and Donny Schatz in the feature, McMahan would finish in the 15th spot.

Saturday night would see the Destiny Motorsports team time in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Advancing from fifth to fourth in his heat race, the Nashville, TN resident would line up in the sixth row for the 30-lap Lanny Edwards Memorial feature event.

A narrow surface in the feature event would again make passing tough, but McMahan would pick up a few spots in the early goings of the feature event as he found himself running in the 11th position.

Continuing to run 11th, traffic would factor into this finish late in the race. With a car changing lanes in front of him, McMahan would be force to check up and he would lose two spots and finish in the 13th spot.

“Willis, Texas was good for us, and in Devil’s Bowl I just struggled to get us timed in,” McMahan added. “The way the track was you really needed to be up towards the front to be in the game, and we weren’t. Good to have a solid finish on Thursday, and now we will get some time back at our home shop, and see what we can do this weekend. Can’t thank Rick, and Barb Rogers, as well as my guys, enough for all they do for this race team.”
