PETERSEN MEDIA: Migrating from California to Arizona, Paul McMahan and the Destiny Motorsports team had a nice showing that included a fifth place finish on Friday night at Cocopah Speedway and a 10th place finish on Saturday night at Arizona Speedway.
“We keep working at it, and we keep getting better each night,” Paul McMahan said. “My guys are committed to getting us up front, and I think we are coming along nicely.”
Kicking the weekend in Arizona off on Friday night at Cocopah Speedway, where his venture with the team began in 2016, McMahan would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 sprinter in fifth fastest during qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, McMahan would be penalized a row for jumping the initial start but would come back and pick up the heat race win and move into the Dash.
Finishing eighth in the Dash, the Elk Grove, CA native turned Nashville, TN resident would grid the field from the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event. When the action came to life on the ½ mile, McMahan would jump up into the seventh spot as the track began taking rubber very early in the program.
Riding in seventh for much of the race, McMahan would get bold on the race’s final restart as he was able to pick up a couple of positions and take the checkered flag with a fifth place finish.
Heading to Queen Creek, AZ on Saturday night, McMahan would open his night up by timing the All Star Performance/KSE Racing Products/FK Indy backed machine in 13th fastest in time trials before finishing fourth in the night’s first heat race.
Advancing to the feature, McMahan would roll off from the 10th starting position. On another extremely slick surface, McMahan would search around for grip as he slipped back and lost a few positions.
Settling into the race, McMahan would get his machine working as he fought his way forward and worked back into the Top-10. Trying a couple of things to improve his track position in the closing laps, McMahan would close his two-night stay in Arizona with a 10th place finish.
“We had a really fast racecar in Arizona, and it is great to pick up some consistent finishes,” he added. “We certainly strive to be better, but all in all the guys are making the right changes and we are improving.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Champion Brand Lubricants, All Star Performance, KSE Racing Products, FK Indy, HRP, KPC, PPM Titanium, Chalk Stix, Wilwood, Kieizer Wheels, Simpson, Petersen Media, My Race Pass, Speedway Engines, FK Rod Ends, Boss Signs and Graphics, Classic Ink, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Hoosier Tires North, and BulterBuilt for their continued support.
