PETERSEN MEDIA: After five races together in Arizona back in January, Paul McMahan and the Destiny Motorsports team resumed action over the last week in Florida, and with the DIRTcar Nationals now history, McMahan is pleased with the direction things are heading.
“We didn’t have the results we were looking for, but I think we have our cars driving the way we want them, now we just have to get our qualifying package dialed in,” said Paul McMahan.
Racing with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Wednesday and Thursday night, the Elk Grove, CA native turned Nashville, TN resident would finish in the 14th the first night before being involved in a nasty wreck on Thursday night.
Able to regroup and put a new car together for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season opener, McMahan would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in 10th fastest before an issues in his heat race saw him fall back to finish 7th.
Dominating the night’s Last Chance Showdown, McMahan would grid the field from the 21st starting position for the 30-lap A Main. A wild race saw McMahan turn in some good laps and make some strong moves as he carved his way forward.
Getting inside the Top-10, McMahan would get up to the ninth spot and earn KSE Hard Charger Honors for his efforts.
Back at it on Saturday night, McMahan would struggle in time trials, before finishing in the sixth and final transfer spot in heat race action aboard the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Boss Signs and Graphics backed machine.
Lining up in the seventh row of the A Main, McMahan and company would be a little off in the feature as he struggled to get moving in the right direction. Bringing out a caution late in the race, McMahan would ultimately finish in the 20th spot.
The grueling week of racing came to a close on Sunday night and McMahan kicked his night off by timing the FK Rod Ends/Walker Performance Filtration entry in 13th fastest.
Netting a fifth place finish during his heat race, McMahan would line up in the 13th spot for the final feature of the week. On the fastest racing surface of Florida Sprint Week, passing was at a premium during the 30-lap affair.
Racing with the likes of Jason Johnson, Kerry Madsen, and Logan Schuchart, McMahan would end up finishing where he started as he crossed the checkered flag with a 13th place finish.
“Scott Benic and the guys are working hard, and I think we will be okay once we get qualifying dialed in,” McMahan added. “You have to be really good every time you are on the track with the new format, and I think we are getting there. I have to thank the guys, as well as Rick and Barb Rogers for all of their efforts.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, FK Rod Ends, Walker Performance Filtration, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their continued support.
