PETERSEN MEDIA: David Gravel and his Desitny Motorsports team closed the 2015 World of Outlaws season out with a ninth place run during Sunday’s Bad Boy Buggies World Finals Feature Event at the Dirt Track at Charlotte.
“We had a lot of speed over the weekend, but a little bad luck kept us out of the Dash both nights,’ Gravel said. “We timed in very well, and at I felt we raced pretty good during both A Mains.”
Thursday night at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, Gravel timed the Destiny Motorsports/MonDak Portables/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in seventh fastest for the Thursday night program, and second fastest for the Friday night program giving himself and the team a great start to the weekend.
Starting on the front row of his Friday night heat race, it was deemed Gravel was too early on the throttle at the start of the race and he would be put back a row. Finishing second in the heat, the Watertown, CT driver would transfer to the feature event but would come up short on earning a berth into the Dash.
Lining up 15th in the 25-lap feature event, Gravel would get off to a nice start on an extremely rough and tumble racing surface, only to suffer a flat tire forcing him into the work area.
With his Destiny Motorsports team making quick repairs, Gravel was able to come back and gain some spots during a wild feature event as he took the checkered flag with a 16th place finish.
Mother Nature did not want to see the series come to a close on Saturday night so the finale would be pushed back to Sunday afternoon.
Lining up third in his heat race on Sunday night, the slicked off surface made for a tough go starting on the low side of the speedway. Finding himself back in the fifth spot by the first turn, Gravel would try everything he could to get into the third and final transfer spot, but he was unable to.
Forced into the Last Chance Showdown, Gravel turned in 12 strong laps as he advanced from his second row starting position to finish second and qualify for the final World of Outlaws feature event of the 2015 season.
With the preferred line right on the fence, Gravel quickly went to work from his 14th starting position.
Able to get into the Top-10, the former Keving Gobrecht Rookie of the Year winner would race his way into the ninth spot in the closing laps, where he would close his 2015 campaign.
“It was a nice way to end our 2015 season,” Gravel said. “I have to thank Rick and Barb Rogers for this opportunity, and Scott Benic and my guys for their hard work all season long.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Rod End Supply, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their support in 2015.
