Gravel and Destiny Motorsports Finish 13th at Knoxville Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA: David Gravel and his Destiny Motorsports team did some really good things during the 55th Annual Knoxville Nationals. Looking to put a tough Summer behind them, Gravel and company showed up to the biggest races of the year and earned a podium finish during their qualifying night before finishing 13th during the Saturday night feature event.

“It was disappointing for everyone to finish where we did on Saturday, but we accomplished some good things over the course of the week, and I am proud of this team,” David Gravel said.

After a tough Capitani Classic kicked the week off on Sunday night, Gravel and company headed to the Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday night for the Front Row Challenge where Gravel would finish 11th aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine.

With Tuesday night a day of preparation, Gravel and company would kick the 55th Annual Knoxville Nationals off on Wednesday night as they would look to accumulate as many points as they could.

Gravel would get off to a great start as he timed the Rick Rogers Construction/Champion Brand Lubricants/Maxim Chassis in second fastest during time trials, putting him in the fourth row of his heat race.

Needing a top-four finish to transfer into the feature, the Watertown, CT driver would answer the bell as he worked his way up into the fourth spot, and moved into the fourth row of the feature event.

When the green flag dropped, Gravel would work his way forward into the top-five as he chased after Daryn Pittman and Donny Schatz when the yellow flew on the 15th lap.

Getting off to a slow restart, Gravel would fall back to the sixth spot before getting a full head of steam and surging his way to third where he would go on to finish.

Sitting second overall in points after his qualifying night, Gravel and company would watch how the Thursday night program unfolded and would find themselves third overall in points and starting in the second row of the 55th Annual Knoxville Nationals.

When the Saturday feature rolled around, Gravel would race with Joey Saldana and Danny Lasoski in the early laps as they jockeyed for position inside the Top-Five.

Slipping back to seventh when the red flag flew for the scheduled stop, Gravel and his team would make changes as they looked to get moving in the right direction.

Staying committed to the bottom of the speedway, Gravel would drop a few more positions as he raced with Bryan Clauson and Terry McCarl. When Doug Clark’s checkered flag flew, Gravel would close his Nationals with a 13th place finish.

“We just could not get going on Saturday,” Gravel said. “We did everything right to put ourselves in position, but like I said we were all disappointed that we couldn’t capitalize on a great starting spot. I really have to thank my team for continuing to work so hard, and hopefully we can build off this week and continue to put ourselves in position over the final couple months of the season.”
