PETERSEN MEDIA: David Gravel and his Destiny Motorsports team were able to pick up a pair of World of Outlaws Top-10’s over the weekend, however Gravel and his team are looking for more.
“We put ourselves in great position all week long, but we just were off in the feature event every night,” Gravel said. “We have been battling not getting ourselves in the dash, but now are battling not running well in the feature. My guys have been working hard, and I feel like we will keep working to improve.”
Getting the week kicked off on Wednesday at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, Gravel got his night off to a very strong start as he timed the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 7 machine in third fastest.
Finishing third in his heat race, Gravel would find himself on the front row of the dash, and would pick up the win and earn the right to lead the field to green for the 30-lap feature event.
Slipping back to the second spot as the race came to life, Gravel would chase after Joey Saldana who worked out to a strong lead. Continuing to run in the second spot, Gravel would feel pressure from Kerry Madsen, Paul McMahan, and Donny Schatz.
After an exciting exchange, Gravel would find himself back in the fifth spot on the 12th lap. A restart just before the halfway point would see Gravel fall back to the ninth spot, where he would finish.
Heading to the Dodge City Raceway Park on Friday night, Gravel would time in fifth fastest, before a fifth place finish in heat race action made him dash eligible for the second consecutive night.
Again finding himself on the front row of the Dash, Gravel would pick up the win, and again earn the right to lead the field to the green flag. The start did not go how Gravel had hoped as he drifted up the track and slipped back to the fifth spot.
Looking to fight his way back forward, Gravel found himself trapped on the top of the speedway, and would get over the cushion as he lost more positions. Struggling to find grip on this night, Gravel would slide back to a 13th place finish.
Back at the Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday night, Gravel would time the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Boss Signs and Graphics entry in 11th fastest.
Picking up the heat race win, Gravel would finish eighth in the dash, and line up in the fourth row of the feature event. Battling with Shane Stewart, Brad Sweet, and Joey Saldana during much of the feature event, Gravel would end his weekend with a ninth place finish.
“It is tough to start in the dash and on the front row of these Outlaw races and fall back, but we are still growing as a team and figuring things out,” Gravel said. “I have to thank all of my guys for continuing to work hard, and thank Rick and Barb Rogers for staying patient with us and continuing to let us compete.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Rod End Supply, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their support in 2015.
