Tulare Top-10

Tulare Top-10

PETERSEN MEDIA: Destiny Motorsports with driver, Craig Dollansky, got their extended trip to California off to a solid start, as the team finished ninth on Friday night, before contact while battling inside the Top-10 on Saturday night sent Dollansky’s machine into the wall.

“Tulare was the most encouraging weekend we have had to this point,” Dollansky said. “We started to show some speed, and had two solid qualifying efforts at a track that isn’t easy to get qualified at.”

Friday night saw 46 cars check into the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, and Dollansky timed the MonDak Portables/Aggressive Hydraulics/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in 12th fastest, before picking up a heat race win in convincing fashion.

Lining up for the 35-lap feature in fourth row by way of his dash finish, Dollansky battled inside the Top-10 much of the night, as he navigated a very rough racing surface. Battling with drivers like Donny Schatz, and Tayler Malsam, Dollansky was able to avoid a couple of multi-car crashes, and get a ninth place finish to open up the weekend.

“Friday night we were off with our car, but we were able to survive the race, and get a Top-10 finish out of it,” he added.

Polar opposite track conditions greeted the teams on Saturday night, and Dollansky opened his night up by timing the Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Boss Signs and Graphics entry in fifth fastest, before finishing fourth in heat race action.

Gridding the field from the ninth spot for the 35-lap feature event, Dollansky continually searched the Thunderbowl for grip as he worked both the high, and low lines of the speedway, as he worked his way forward.

While battling for the seventh position on the 10th lap, contact with another competitor spun Dollansky’s machine into the back stretch wall, and he was taken to the work area. Though the crew worked feverishly to get him back on track, Dollansky would restart, but would ultimately pull into the infield as the damage was too significant to continue.

“Saturday night we had a car that was more cooperative, and had a decent race going until we tried to get around another car, and contact sent us into the wall,” Dollansky added. “Unfortunately we had too much damage with a broken frame to continue the race, but if we could have cleared that car I was trying to pass, I feel would could have finished in the Top-5 somewhere which is a big improvement from where we have been. Everyone on the Destiny Motorsports team is working hard. We need to continue working together, and making progress as a team. We’re not where we want to be as far as results go, but we definitely made some steps in the right direction this past weekend.”
