Destiny Motorsports and Craig Dollansky Get World Of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Campaign Underway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Destiny Motorsports, and driver Craig Dollansky, made the trip to Florida for the 2015 DIRTCar Nationals, which also kicked off the first three shows of the 2015 World of Outlaws schedule.

“I would have liked our Destiny Motorsports team to have better results over the five nights of racing during the DIRTCar Nationals,” Dollansky said. “We weren’t able to get qualified better than 15th, which is something we need to work on, but we did learn some things during our trip.”

Taking on the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions, Wednesday and Thursday night, Dollansky and his Destiny Motorsports team timed in 24th fastest during the opener of the five-night event, before finishing sixth in his heat race aboard the MonDak Portables/Aggressive Hydraulics/Benic Enterprises backed entry.

Scheduled to start 23rd in the feature event, Dollansky would end up starting in the 21st position after a competitor scratched from the race. When the action came to life, Dollansky did what many others could not do, and that was pass cars.

Slowly working his way through the pack, the Elk River, MN driver would carve his way forward to a 13th place finish.

Returning to action on Thursday night, Dollansky kicked things off by timing his machine in 23rd quickest before finishing fifth in his heat race.

Taking the green flag for the 30-lap A Main event in the 11th row, Dollansky searched around the extremely slick Volusia Speedway Park for grip. Battling with the likes of Steve Kinser, and Sam Haffertepe, Dollansky would ultimately pull off the racing surface at the halfway point, ending his night, as he was credited with a 22nd place finish.

Friday night brought the World Of Outlaws season opener, and ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ got things off to a nice start as he timed in 15th fastest before picking up a heat race win, advancing his Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Dakota Fluid Power No. 7 machine into the dash.

With a seventh place finish in the dash, Dollansky gridded the field in the fourth row for the A Main event, and raced well inside the top-ten until the caution flew on the seventh lap.

The ensuing restart saw a car get out of shape in front of Dollansky getting into turn one, and contact ensued to the rear of his car, resulting in him getting upside down, bringing his night to an early end.

Saturday night saw the team fight some hiccups, as Dollansky timed in 20th fastest, finish sixth in his heat race, and finish sixth in the evening’s Last Chance Showdown.

The fifth and final night of racing, got started with an 18th quick effort in time trials, before Dollansky pocketed a fifth place finish in heat race action.

Lining up for the feature in the ninth row, Dollansky searched all over the Volusia Speedway Park to find comfort and speed, and ultimately found it on the bottom of the speedway.

In what was a non-stop 30-lap affair, Dollansky would seem to get better as the night went on. Though he finished 18th, where he started, Dollansky and company felt it was a night they could build on.

“With the difficult level of competition at Volusia, it is very difficult to overcome not getting qualified well,” he added. “All in all I feel we learned some things over the five races, and we can definitely take away some positives. It is a new deal for all of us, and we knew we would have some building to do to get this team where we want it. My crew worked hard all week, and our car owners, Rick and Barb Rogers, give us the support and equipment we need to win races, and this rest is up to myself and my crew. We have a long season ahead, and we will continue working hard to get into victory lane!”
