PETERSEN MEDIA: Though they have struggled at times in 2013, Brandon Wimmer and his Destiny Motorsports team put together their best night of the year, at one of the biggest races in the world, as Wimmer tallied a fourth place finish at the King’s Royal at the Eldora Speedway on Saturday night.
Timing his Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart No.9w in 18th quickest, Wimmer lined up on the front of the sixth heat race, with the winner of the race earning the pole position for the 40-lap feature.
Getting the jump, Wimmer would fend off a pesky Tony Stewart, as he took the win and sat on the pole for the feature event.
Sharing the front row with Brad Sweet, Wimmer and Sweet would race each other hard for the first few laps, as they fought for the lead, with Sweet finally getting the better of Wimmer.
With his right-rear planted against the Eldora cushion, Wimmer continued to chase after Sweet as they reached lapped traffic, and Donny Schatz joined the frey.
Racing three-wide for a few laps, Wimmer gave the duo everything he had, as he slipped back to the third spot.
A late caution saw Wimmer fall back to the fourth spot when Tim Kaeding got past him, but the Fairmount, IN driver held tough and tallied a very strong fourth place finish.
“I can’t thank Rick and Barb Rogers for everything they have given me this year,” Wimmer said. “This team has gone through so much, and it is awesome to run fourth at the King’s Royal. Scott Benic and the guys have worked so hard in the shop all year, I’m really excited to see the progress we have made.”
Wimmer’s weekend got underway in Lima, OH on Thursday night at the Brady Doty Classic.
Timing in 17th quickest, Wimmer scored a second place finish, putting him in the dash, where he finished 11th, where he would start the feature event.
On the second lap, Wimmer made contact with a spinning Brad Sweet, and was forced to the tail end of the field following repairs, and he worked up to a 15th place finish.
Friday night, Wimmer and company were in action at the Eldora Speedway, and they had a rough start to the night as they timed in 29th quickest.
A seventh place finish in heat race action put him in the fifth row of the B main, and Wimmer charged his way forward to a second place finish, putting him in the feature event, where he started finished 23rd.
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Keizer Wheels, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
