Barnes’ Woes Continue

PETERSEN MEDIA: Hoping to put together a couple strong runs following their Ocala, FL trip, Jayme Barnes and his Destiny Motorsports team worked hard on their new Eagle chassis, but just didn’t get the results they were hoping for.

“Though our results don’t show it, we got a lot better this week,” Barnes said. “We had some issues on Saturday night with our breaks, that made us look bad, but we raced better, and I think we are getting better with our car.”

Following a pair of rainouts, the Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Eagle Motorsports team got underway on Friday night with the World of Outlaws at the Volusia Speedway Park.

Barnes started the night off by timing in 27th quickest, putting him in the fourth row of heat three.

Jumping into the sixth spot, Barnes challenged Dale Blaney for the fifth and final transfer spot, but came up short, and went to the LCQ.

Starting eighth, Barnes quickly grabbed a couple of positions aboard his Speedmart/Wesmar/Driver Websites backed entry, putting him in sixth.

After clearing Danny Lasoski for fifth, Barnes chased down Fred Rahmer for the final transfer spot, but again came up short, and ended his night.

“We raced much better on Friday, but didn’t make the show,” he said. “If we can time in a little better and make the inversion, we can definitely make like a little easier on ourselves.”

Saturday night came, and the team fought gremlins all night.

“We had some break issues show up, and it was just a nightmare,” Barnes said.

At the end of their hot lap session, a brake caliper bolt broke, and with little time to make a change, Barnes was forced to qualify with no brakes, and ended up 39th quickest.

In heat race action, the Destiny Motorsports No.9 completed six laps, before a hole was rubbed in the brake line, and forced a DNF.

Forced to start the tail of the B, Barnes made it a quick night, as again he had brake issues arise on the first lap, and he pulled into the pit area.

“We thrashed all night to get our brakes handled, but it was something different every time. I can’t thank Rick, Scott, and all the guys that helped us try and get the situation handled.”

Saturday night, the night started off with Barnes again timing in 27th fastest, putting him in the third heat.

A seventh place finish put him in the LCQ again, as he started in the fourth row, and needed to finish in the top-four to make the transfer.

Getting off to a slow start, Barnes slipped back several spots, as he fell back to 10th. Unfortunately, the Washington driver was unable to rebound, and he ended up 10th.

“I can’t thank all the people who are helping us, and making this possible,” Barnes said. “We have definitely had our fair share of issues down here, so hopefully we can get to East Bay and have a couple nights of good racing before we head home.”

Jayme and his team would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Eagle Motorsports, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
